How we use AI

Effective (draft): July 2026

We are upfront about where AI is used, what it does, and — importantly — what it does not do. AI helps read your report and draft coaching; it never makes a decision about your child on its own.

What the AI does

The AI is used for two things, both of which you stay in control of:

  • Reading (extraction): the AI reads your uploaded report and proposes a grid of grades and teacher comments. It is a drafting step, not a verdict.
  • Coaching (generation): once you unlock the full analysis, the AI drafts per-subject coaching insights from the grades and comments you have already confirmed.

A human confirms everything — no automated decisions

Nothing the AI reads is treated as final. You review the proposed grid, correct anything that is wrong, and confirm it before we chart it, compare it, or generate coaching. This human-in-the-loop confirmation is mandatory and built into the product — the dashboard is blocked until you confirm.

Because of this, there is no automated decision-making that produces a legal or similarly significant effect on your child without human review. The AI assists; you decide.

Accuracy — and why we ask you to check

AI reading of a report is usually accurate but not perfect: handwriting, photo quality, unusual layouts and non-standard subject names can all cause mistakes. That is exactly why we show you every cell to confirm, highlight low-confidence ones for a closer look, and let you edit them. If the upload quality is too low to read reliably, we ask you to retake the photo rather than guess.

Where the AI runs, and what happens to your data

AI processing runs on Anthropic’s Claude API, which is hosted in the United States. A report you upload leaves Australia to be read, and is sent to Anthropic for that purpose only. Anthropic does not use data sent through its commercial API to train its models, and we do not use your data to train third-party AI models. How long Anthropic stores what we send it is governed by Anthropic’s own commercial terms and data-processing addendum — that retention period is not set by us, and we do not claim it is short.

We will update this document and our collection notice before changing where that processing runs.

Redaction before comparison

Before any comment is stored or any grade is added to anonymous comparison, we strip identifying details — other people’s names, teacher names, class codes, dates, clubs and awards — and drop anything that appears to be about the wrong child. Anonymous comparison itself uses only tokens and grades, never names or free text, and only shows broad bands once a cohort is large enough that no individual can be singled out.
